The Resolution of Callie & Kayden *REVIEW*

18166143

Ok… I lied… there was no way- no way- I could wait until Friday to post this. I’m too excited!

                                                                                         Here’s the official blurp:
Things are going good for Callie and Kayden. They’re still dealing with their past and the pain connected to it, but for the most part they’ve moved on. The biggest decision they have at the moment is what they want to do with their lives in the future.

Eventually, though, the past catches up with them and it leaves them with a choice no one wants to make. But Callie and Kayden learn that as long as they have each other, they can make it through just about anything. And in the end, they discover what they really want out of life.

I don’t think I’ve missed a single book by Jessica Sorensen, she’s one of those that the moment I hear about a new book, I have to read it. HAVE TO. This one, The Resolution of Callie & Kayden, was a whole new level of excitement though.

It might be unhealthy how invested in the lives and romance of Callie and Kayden I really am.
But honestly, do you blame me? It’s impossible not to fall hard and fast for characters written by Jessica Sorensen. She’s creates characters that are so perfectly flawed and real that I feel as connected to them as I do to some my friends. Her characters pop off the page and haunt my memories for day–ok weeks, months… maybe even years- after I’ve finished reading.

Callie and Kayden’s story drew me in from the moment the tiny girl with butchered hair and baggy clothes stepped in and stood up for the big, football player even though she was terrified. With each book that tells their story I grow more connected, more invested, and more in love with these characters.
And this final installment, this resolution if you will, made my heart sing and soul soar. Yes, it was just that flawless. It was perfection. Like, I can’t even say anything else. It was everything I ever hoped and dreamed it would be.

So I’ll just leave you with what is my favorite quote from the novel and let you swoon over while you let the page load so that you can buy your own copy.
“Is it possible to fall in love with someone even when you’re already in love with them? Because I’m pretty sure I just did.”
I’ll say it again… swoon.

(In case you don’t feel like scrolling all the way down to my “release day post” that I put up this morning, I’ve put all the author info, playlists, and buy links up again in this post

Excerpt

“She’s just being nice,” Kayden says gazing down at me. His hair is ruffled and his jawline is scruffy and he looks so happy. “And it’s nice… that she wants to be so nice… it could be worse than an overnice mother.”

“Yeah, I know.” I sigh, knowing he’s right, that it could be worse, that I could have a mother like his mother. “I just wish she’d be just a little bit less embarrassing.” I raise my hand and make a pinching gesture with my fingers. “Maybe just a teeny tiny bit.”

“Yeah, I doubt that’s ever going to happen.” Kayden slips his shirt off and chucks it aside. His jeans ride low on his hips, giving me a view of his abs and chest that is crisscrossed with scars. “I did find it funny when she kept cracking jokes all through dinner about how she thinks we’re going to end up getting married.” He kneels down on the mattress, nudging my knees open with his knees until I spread open my legs for him.

“Oh God.” Shaking my head, I cover my face with my hands. “I’m glad you find it funny because I’m sure most guys would be running for their lives.”

The mattresses moves as he leans over me and puts a hand on each side of my head. I crack my fingers apart and look at him. He’s been so much happier since he put the past behind him. He seems to breathe freer, smile more, and it’s probably the most beautiful sight I’ve ever seen. “Well, just make sure you really want this,” I say as he moves one of my hands away from my eyes. “Because you still have time to run.”

He shakes his head, his tongue slipping out of his mouth to wet his lips. “No running here,” he whispers in a raspy voice that I know only means one thing—he wants me. “Ever.” He moves my other hand away from my face then pins my arms above my head.

A while ago, the movement would have sent my heart soaring and not in a good way. But now… well, it freaking soars like a bird high up in the sky never wanting to return to land ever. It soars because it’s free. It soars for him.

“You want me,” I tease as he leans down to kiss me.

“You’re right,” he says. “And then I want to give you your present.”

“But you already gave me my present.” I pat my pocket where the tickets to the concert are that he gave me. He said it was for a redo of a night that should have been special, but he couldn’t give it to me then, but he was ready now to give me everything I deserve—his words not mine. My mom practically fainted when he said it. And me, well I think I fell in love with Kayden even more.

“Yeah, but that one was only the first part.” He kisses me, then softly bites my bottom lip before he leans back for air. “There’s more,” he breathes against my lips, coming in for another kiss. “But you have to wait.”

“Until when?” I wonder, my heart skipping a beat as his hands wander for the button of my jeans.

“Until we’re done with this.” He gives me a wicked smile as he flicks my button undone.

The Certainty of Violet & Luke – Jessica Sorensen + GIVEAWAY

releaseday_theCertaintyOfVioletAndLuke_banner

Today! It’s Today! We can finally all read The Certainty of Violet & Luke today!

Here’s the official blurb:
Violet Hayes’s life is a mess. Between her stalker, Preston, refusing to leave her alone, her parents’ case still being unsolved, and falling behind in school, she always feels on the verge of losing it. When some unexpected news comes her way, it’s the final straw and she ends up doing something that almost costs her life. Thankfully, she survives and makes a promise to herself to put her life back together and to try and figure out exactly how she feels about Luke Price, the one person that’s always there for her.

But as a recovering alcoholic and gambler, Luke has his own struggles to overcome. He’s also fallen in love with Violet, but fears telling her the truth, that it will scare her away or worse, she won’t reciprocate the feeling. Plus, there never seems to be a right time to say it, either the case, Preston, or life getting in the way.

Can the two of them ever get enough peace in their lives to conquer their fears and finally tell each other the truth about how they feel?

the certainty of violet and luke

I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for a review.
Let me just start by saying you will not, I repeat, not be disappointed. If you enjoyed Luke and Violet’s story up to now then you’ll only keep enjoying it- only more, because we finally get resolution! (hehehe, get it? Since the next book- Callie & Kayden’s last book is called The Resolution? Yeah. I know. I’m hilarious)
Of course, this book is not hilarious. It’s dark and twisty, but oh so good.

We start back at school. Luke and Violet are together- finally not running away from one another – but that doesn’t mean things are peachy. Nope. Not at all. While Luke is sober (yay Luke) Violet has begun to drown her problems with Alcohol, she uses sex to forget and isn’t as keen on going to class. Oh and Preston’s stalking is getting even creepier and creepier. Luke’s trying to help, but he doesn’t really know where to start. Can he judge Violet’s drinking and uses of sex when he used to do the very same thing?

Now, I’m kind of torn about a few things. Luke wants to help Violet and that’s sweet and noble. But sometimes it seems like he’s not doing it because he loves her, but because he feels obligated to her due to his mother’s connection in her parents’ murder. That doesn’t come off as a super healthy relationship. I get that he actually cares for her, that is just obvious, but he’s making some sacrifices – like skipping his own classes – seemingly because he feels obligated to. I also think it’s pretty clear that Violet needs professional help and has for a while. And I feel like she would have benefitted if someone pressed her to go back in the first book. It bugs me that after she goes too far with nearly fatal results that Luke doesn’t try to get her help.

I do love that Luke is working on his relationship with his dad.It seems like after their stay at his house, he’s leaning on his dad a little more which I really like. I like that he’s giving his dad the second chance, because Luke needs the family and the support. I wish there had been a little more of Kayden at least. I feel like in Callie and Kayden’s story Luke played a pretty large role and it was very clear that they were best friends, but in this series it seems like Luke is closer to Seth and Grayson now and is drifting apart from Kayden. It may be understandable what with Kayden being so in love with Callie and Luke dealing with so many things with his own life and Violet, but it still made me a little sad that they don’t seem as close anymore.

There was definitely some mystery this time. More suspense, since we were lead to be so curious about Preston and what he wanted and what he claims to know. The suspense kept up the pace and kept it from feeling like the story was getting stagnant. It definitely wasn’t the same old same.

I am sooo not about to spoil the ending but let me tell you that I was very happy with the way their story concluded. In fact, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect way. It was flawless and it was made all the sweeter due to all the crap, all the bumps, all the horrible things they went through to get to the end.

Overall I really enjoyed The Certainty of Violet & Luke. It’s for sure worth a read, especially if you’re a fan of Sorensen and of the Coincidence series. So go buy this one and eat it up and then make sure you have The Resolution of Callie & Kayden preordered! – Also you’ll want to preorder Seth & Grayson’s story too because you won’t want to miss them! Violet and Luke teaser_Lips

It’s like he’s fighting to breathe, his solid chest rising and falling heavily with each breath he takes. “You have to start trusting me.”

“I do trust you. Too much,” I whisper, shutting my eyes. “You could crush my heart if you wanted to.” The silence that follows is maddening.

Did I just say that out loud?

One…

Two…

Three…

Time feels endless as I wait for what comes next. I hear him shift on the seat, feeling him scoot closer

“Violet, open your eyes.” His breath dusts my cheeks.

I swiftly shake my head, smashing my lips together. “I can’t.” But I find myself opening my eyes anyway and he’s so close, only inches away from me.

“I would never ever hurt you,” he promises, his hand gently cupping the back of my neck, fingers spreading across my skin. His touch sends a shot of tingles across my flesh and causes me to shiver as he guides me toward his lips. But I’m already leaning in, an invisible current pulling me toward him, like two magnets about to collide.

When we do crash into one another, it’s dangerously intoxicating, steals the air from my lungs, and sends my heart slamming in my chest. I’m already falling again to that place where I feel helpless yet safe. Emotions press their way to the surface, this time too strong to ignore. It hits me like lightning, an electric current surging through my body, overwhelming heat that both brings me alive and kills me at the same time.

I think it’s then that I know what I’m feeling. The thing I’ve been trying to avoid for days now, and I’m both terrified out of my mind yet alarmingly at peace.

The Probability of Violet & Luke – Jessica Sorensen

19268231

The Probability of Violet & Luke is even better than the first! Maybe it’s just me, but this novel moved at a quicker pace, had more action, more love… more everything!

The story begins where The Destiny of Violet and Luke left off and it’s not very pretty.

Violet is back with Preston and dealing and letting him use her and abuse her. Luke is drinking- even more than usual- and letting his demons get the better of him. They both want each other, but knowing what they know about Luke’s mother’s involvement in the murder of Violet’s parents… well, it’s not easy for them to be together.

A chance encounter brings them back together and the magnetism they feel toward one another keeps them together on an adventure – more like a mission to save Luke’s ass.

In the first of this series, I liked Violet ok, but I never really connected with her. It was weird because regardless the damage and crazy strange lives of characters I’ve always connected well, especially with Jessica Sorensen’s leads because she does such a wonderful job of writing them. In the first of Violet and Luke’s story I had trouble feeling very attached to Violet. But The Probability of Violet and Luke changed that. I don’t know what was different for me, but something – maybe the fact that Violet opened up a little more – allowed me to really connect with the character and thus root for her much more strongly in this novel.

Of course, I’ve been on Luke’s side since first meeting. I first admired him for his friendship to Kayden, and my love for him has only grown as I’ve read his story.

While The Probability was still dark, it seemed little lighter. There were a couple parts that made me smile or where jokes were cracked, I particularly enjoyed Luke’s cousin and uncle. That made a huge difference to me in how much I liked this versus The Destiny which seemed to not have a moment worth smiling about.

Overall I really loved this one! Of course there’s a cliffhanger… how could there not be? But good news for you if you’re reading this right now The Certainty of Violet & Luke comes out TOMORROW so no complaining about that cliffhanger! Just read the next one and find out if Violet and Luke get the happy ending they both soooooo deserve.

The Destiny of Violet & Luke – Jessica Sorensen

In honor of one of my very favorite authors, Jessica Sorensen’s, upcoming release of The Certainty of Violet and Luke (the third installment of Violet and Luke’s story and the 5th book in The Coincidence series) on September 16- yes, that’s 2 days, y’all! I decided to post reviews of the first two installments in Violet and Luke’s story! – I had already read these books prior to beginning this blog and so never posted my thoughts on them and decided now was the perfect, perfect time!

To today, I present The Destiny of Violet & Luke. Keep a lookout tomorrow for The Probability and on it’s release day I’ll post my review and tell you all how much I loved The Certainty of Violet & Luke!

17152025

The Callie & Kayden captured my heart in the Coincidence series in the same way that Ella and Micha did in the Forever series, so when I found out Luke – Kayden’s bff and one of the most interesting supporting characters I’ve ever read- was getting his own book I was thrilled. When I found out the female lead would be Violet, Callie’s mysterious roommate, I was even more intrigued.

Let me tell you, the story of Luke and Violet is worth the read. I don’t love super dark stories and this one doesn’t have a lot- if any- comic relief, so it took me longer to read than a lot of novels do, but I enjoyed it all the same.

From the first page questions we’ve had about Luke since first meeting him are answered as we get some of his backstory to help us better understand him. It’s heart wrenching to read what Luke went through as a seven year old and allows us as readers to see Luke through a different light than we may have before.
We get a bit of Violet’s backstory from the start as well and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make tear up to read about her experience in foster homes.

They meet in an unlikely way at a party and despite their reservations and all the walls they each have up, they seem to immediately have a sort of soft spot for one another. Luke is reminded of his sister, who committed suicide and Violet is surprised by his willingness to offer assistance when she needs it, but won’t admit she does.

I don’t want to go into anymore plot detail – you know I hate spoiling anything for anyone, so we’ll just focus on the characters now!

I’m going to start with Callie and Kayden. It was so great to see them through Luke and Violet’s eyes. I always enjoy when Authors make mains characters of one book secondary characters in another because I love getting to see how everyone really sees everyone. I also just loved getting more Callie and Kayden- because, come on! Who wouldn’t? Though we don’t get to see much of them, that’s fine since this isn’t their story, but we get to see enough that we know they’re still doing well.

Seth and Greyson actually play a decently sized role in this novel. Seth, as we recall from earlier books and Luke seemed to click together pretty quickly – initially bonding over their similar vice of smoking. But now we know that Luke parties a lot with Seth and Greyson- who BTW I just love! They’ve become close enough that they invite Luke to live with them when they find out he has nowhere else to live. Seth is… himself. He’s a little too blunt and a bit judgmental of Violet due mostly to how he perceived her treatment of Callie while they shared a dorm. Greyson is a bit more laid back and actually makes an effort to befriend Violet. He be my new favorite of this series.

Luke. Luke is withdrawn and dark, but even if he doesn’t always see it, he is good. Even if he doesn’t always want to, he cares and he’s a good friend and he’s good to Violet. Sure, he’s a bit rough around the edges, with a past like his, who wouldn’t be? But there’s so much more depth to him than he even likes to admit to.

Violet, in my opinion at least, is the most tortured soul that Jessica Sorensen has written about. Ella had her issues for sure, Callie has plenty of issues and so does Nova, but witnessing your parents murder and then being forced from horrible foster home to horrible foster home and then having to deal drugs for your ex-foster parent just to be able to attend college… yeah. She is definitely the most tragic character I think I’ve ever read about. But that didn’t stop me from loving her. She is strong and unique and has more capacity to love and be loved than she knows.

I’ll admit that the tension and reluctance between the two to actually admit they have something gets a little frustrating – but in a good way. The tension and heat builds and GAH we just want it to happen already! (Love it!)

This is the start of a beautiful story and if you haven’t read it yet, I definitely recommend that you do.
