Review

Game Master was a quick fun read, full of action, emotion and of course, a bit of romance. Arizona, on the run from men trying to kill her, happens upon a skeleton key that leads into another world where frogs talk, magic is real, and Lucifer isn’t necessarily the devil. She’s stuck in this world, away from the earth she knows and loves, but when it comes down to it, will she even want to leave?
I enjoyed the novella, which is part of a bigger series of novellas The Skeleton Key, but for me, it did miss in a couple areas. To me, this one would have quite simply worked better as a full length novel. As always, I found myself transported to the world Ms. Dawn created, but all too soon, it was over and I was left wanting more. We caught a quick glimpse of the magic of the world, enough to really spark my interest but not enough that I felt like I knew the world. And I wanted to know it. There were a couple instances where something was mentioned, like a dangerous forest but we never got to find out more about it or the creatures inside. Similarly, I wanted to know more about both Arizona and Lucifer – about their pasts and their present.
That said, I did love the main characters in this story. They were unique in different while at the same time they reminded me of my favorite couple in Scarlett Dawn writing, Lily and Ezra. It made it impossible not to fall for these characters too. Arizona was confident and strong while remaining human and relatable. Lucifer was thoughtful and kind but with a bit of mystery and a lot of sex appeal. And Kingsley. There isn’t much more I can say about him aside from the fact that I very much loved our resident talking frog.

June Reads!!

Even the avid reader that I am, I typically look forward to summer for all the amazing movies that are surely on the way.
(more than one this summer, a fabulous adaptation from novels – Serious! We get Me Before You, The Jungle Book, Through The Looking Glass. And that’s just what’s already been released!)

But this summer, the books are REALLY stepping it up too!! I can’t remember the last time I’ve had such a long reading list for brand new books so I thought I’d take the time share the books I’m most excited to read this month!Belle

Okay, so not ALL of them are June releases. I may be a little behind, but here they are, in no particular order!!

  • MOON MARK by Scarlett Dawn – Okay, so maybe there’s a little bit of an order because I am soooo excited for this novel! If you didn’t have a chance to read Cold Mark (originally released as a novella series, but now sold as a single book and currently on kindle unlimitedyou are missing out. This one is a stand alone though, and follows different characters so, you don’t have to read Cold Mark. FUN fact?? Amazon currently says Moon Mark will be featured on Kindle Unlimited as well! This one comes out toward the end of the month, but you can pre-order!!
  • GAME MASTER by Scarlett Dawn – Yeah, two reads from Mrs. Dawn this month. Go, ahead, jump up and down, don’t bother to contain your excitement. This one is actually part of the Skeleton Key series, which will feature 30 fantasy stories you’re sure to love! Game Master along with the rest of the series should be out June 15!
  • THIRD TIME’S A CHARM by Tara Brown – This one is already out! Actually it released a couple of weeks ago and is the third installment in the Crimson Cove series. I haven’t had a chance to pick it up just yet but I’m super excited to! This whole series is also on kindle unlimited if you haven’t started reading yet, it’s a fabulous YA mystery meets love series!
  • PUCK BUDDIES by Tara Brown – Puck Buddies is part of the Roommate series that is sure to be the perfect mix of hilarity that will make you giggle (and possibly snort) and romance that will have you swooning. It comes out June 25 and I am PUMPED to read this one!! Pre-order it here and get excited because it, too, will be on kindle unlimited! (honestly, I could be their spokeswoman because it’s like suddenly EVERYTHING awesome is on unlimited and I am dying happy).
  • GODS by Ednah Walters – This is an extention of the universe created in the Runes series that, if you haven’t read, is awesome. Norse Mythology, bad boys, magic… it has everything and the newest installment coming on June 14 is sure to be just as good!

Okay, I’ll stop there with just my top five of the month, but my actual reading list this month is about 15 books (if I don’t keep finding and adding new ones… which I totally will!) What can I say?

Review1

(I received and eARC of this novella in exchange for an honest review)
Let me just go ahead and say it, if you loved Blood Tree Part 1, you will go absolutely head over heels for Blood Tree Part 2. Juliet, as we discovered in Part 1 of this little series, is a fierce, protective, mama bear all the way and you can’t help but love her that. But in Blood Tree Part 2, we find out that she is so much more than just Kenna’s mother. Juliet is fun and sexy and full of life. More than that we find out she has a past of her own, full of secrets and heartache and one sexy elf. In Blood Tree Part 2, we find out what happens when Juliet’s past catches up with her and man, oh, man, is it worth the read. You do not want to miss Juliet’s tale!

Review:

I have to admit, I was a little hesitant to crack to this one open. I love Scarlett’s writing style and have been sucked into everything she’s written prior to this, but was concerned the plot wasn’t going to do it for me. It seemed a bit darker than everything of hers that I’ve read before, so I was concerned it would lack one of the things I love most about Scarlett’s work – the humor and banter. I needn’t worry. Obsidian Liquor has everything that makes Scarlett great! There’s some total badassery, just the right amount of snark, humor, and sexiness to make fit right in with the rest of Scarlett Dawn’s repertoire.

I will say, it started a little abruptly for me. I kept feeling like I should already know these characters because there is so much history and background that it left me feeling like I was missing out on a couple chapters that better explain and introduce some of the characters. It wasn’t my favorite of Scarlett’s work, but it was definitely worth a read – and you totally could NOT stop me from digging into the rest of the series as it’s released.

So if you’re looking for something a little dark, a little spicy, and a whole lot sexy, pick this one up!

SOAR – Cold Mark Saga – Scarlett Dawn

soar_amazon

I am so thrilled to announce the release of Soar by Scarlett Dawn. This is the fifth, and final, installation in the amazing COLD MARK SAGA! If you haven’t already gotten your hands on it, go buy it here immediately!

Blurb:

New York Times bestselling author, Scarlett Dawn, captures the perfect last installment of The Cold Mark Saga, where trust is earned and love soars…

Braita Valorn is a disaster walking. One mistake after another on the planet Triaz has landed her in trouble time and again. Only Braita’s quick wit has kept her from complete ruin—and her cunning to blackmail the Plumas of the east.

The Plumas of the west own Braita. She is their Soul. But when her ultimate freedom is so close she can taste it, Braita might just ‘own’ them…if her heart doesn’t get in the way.

Or, perhaps, Braita should have followed her heart from the start—to one set of Plumas who are her perfect match.
Will Braita obtain her freedom? Or will she finally accept a life she never asked for?

Review:

Five novellas later and I am still in love with every character! I don’t even know what else to say, I r eally loved this series of novellas. Briata is as awesome as ever. I loved her assertion to her freedom, despite the ways everything seems to be working against it. I’m so sad to be saying goodbye to such an awesome character! The plumas are great- though I won’t spoil it by saying which ones – I will say the heat is turned up in Soar and man oh man, it does not leave a girl disappointed. There is a bit of action, fighting (duh! These are the Mian we’re talking about), and, of course, some laughs – would it be Scarlett Dawn if we didn’t laugh? I will say there are times it felt a little rushed. I found myself wishing it was longer because though everything tied together, it did so in a manner that just kind of brushed over things instead of taking the time to really explore them. Because of that, I found myself a little disappointed. I wanted more detail, more explanation… more. When it ended, I simply wasn’t ready to let go. Even though I wasn’t ready to say goodbye, Soar was a wonderful end to the Cold Mark Saga.

Synopsis1

The second saga in the bestselling, groundbreaking Forever Evermore series begins with Chosen Thief, where the life of a skilled lawbreaker becomes much more than she ever wanted…

Caroline Jules knows death is imminent. She’s only 22, but as an inmate of Death Row in the most secure Mystical jail, what else could her future hold?

Caro has no idea. Her solitary, transient life is about to get flipped on its head when it is revealed that she is the new Prodigy Elemental, and she has responsibilities and ties that she can’t ever escape. Caro is attempting to run from a brutal past, but the Rulers have other plans for this thief’s future.

But the transition from a self-contained existence to life with the other Prodigies, the Kings and Queens, and even the Elders was never going to be easy, and Caro has secrets she’s loath to share. Suddenly she has friends, mentors, lovers — and they all want to know more about her than she is willing to reveal.

Will Caro ever escape the darkness of all she is, or will she fall deeper into the life that has been chosen for her?

Review1

WOW.
That’s a good kind of wow, in case there was any confusion.
Now, as super fan of the Forever Evermore series thus far, and specifically of Ezra, I was a little concerned what the second saga would bring. I needn’t be. Chosen Thief was nothing short of spellbinding. From the first page, we dive right into action as we meet Caro and are suddenly filled with questions about the mysterious new girl. It’s impossible to put down. IMPOSSIBLE.

For me, it took a few chapters to warm up to Caro. She’s a bit more rough around the edges to start with and a lot less trusting. But it wasn’t long before I fell for the character. She’s bitchy, sarcastic, witty, and funny. But she’s also incredibly loyal and caring. Caro is the kind of girl that you want to be on your side in a fight. And if she’s not your side, you should be freaking terrified.

Sin… oh Sin… It did not take long at all for Sin to join the ranks amongst the best of the book boyfriends. His relationship with Caro may be a bit… vague, but their love for one another is obvious. It’s hard not to love the criminal bad boy when you witness his caring, gentle nature toward those he loves. And it’s even harder when you get a glimpse of his sense of humor. It’s a tad wicked, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The rest of the young Prodigies have unique personalities that I cannot wait to see more of. Aria, Brann and London don’t play a huge role in this installment, but I have a feeling, as they’re the prodigies, they will shine more brightly later in the series. And I am thrilled because the characters we get to meet here are wonderful.

And of course… our old favorites. Jack, Pearl, Lily, and Ezra (and maybe even a couple Elders we know and love) show up in the story and… they’re priceless really. And comical. And perfect.

If you’re a fan of the Forever Evermore series, Caro’s story will only fuel your love for an already enthralling series.
