Most days, Elea couldn’t care less about having Necromancer magick. Who needs to conjure skeletons and sprits when you’re a farm girl? Elea only uses her powers to speed up chores and scare off suitors.
Everything changes when the evil Necromancer Tsar curses Elea. Now, she only has five years left before she burns as a ghost, tortured for all eternity. They say there’s nothing she can do, but Elea disagrees. She decides to embrace her Necromancer powers, train as a magickal assassin, and kill the Tsar… All before his curse kills her. Impossible as it may sound, Elea thinks she has it in the bag, but then everything goes horribly wrong.
That’s when a handsome mage named Rowan steps up to help. Elea wants an ally, but she doesn’t need all the mixed-up feelings that come along with Rowan’s crooked smile.
An assassination mission is no time to fall in love, but Elea’s heart may have other ideas…
I’d never picked up a necromancer novel to be totally honest and I didn’t expect to fall in love with it. But, come on. Seriously. Come on. It’s Christina Bauer. I gobbled up the Angelbound Series like crazy, so when I saw the opportunity to read her latest? I couldn’t turn it down. She could write about almost anything and I’d fall in love. So why not necromancers? Because if anyone is going to do it justice, it’s Christina Bauer.
We meet Elea on her farm where she’s sole owner fight off men who want to court her for her land. Ms. Bauer introduces us to a strong, self-reliant character from the start and I couldn’t wait to turn the page and know more. While it didn’t begin right in the action and took a little while to pick up, it was still an excellent page turner that kept me up well past my bedtime.
After we find out Elea’s been cursed to die in five years and she must harness and learn to command her necromancer powers, the novel skips forward in time. While it was a necessary skip as going into detail on those five years would have made the book ridiculously long (not that I would have complained), I did find myself wishing that there had been a little bit more to that part of the story.
Elea is matured and trained when we see her again, though she’s still the same fiery, self-reliant girl we met in the first pages of the book. And Rowan? Well, I just can’t wait to see where thing go with him – or with the rest of The Beholder Series.

One moment of recklessness will change their worlds
Smart. Responsible. That’s seventeen-year-old Breanna’s role in her large family, and heaven forbid she put a toe out of line. Until one night of shockingly un-Breanna-like behavior puts her into a vicious cyberbully’s line of fire—and brings fellow senior Thomas “Razor” Turner into her life.
Razor lives for the Reign of Terror motorcycle club, and good girls like Breanna just don’t belong. But when he learns she’s being blackmailed over a compromising picture of the two of them—a picture that turns one unexpected and beautiful moment into ugliness—he knows it’s time to step outside the rules.
And so they make a pact: he’ll help her track down her blackmailer, and in return she’ll help him seek answers to the mystery that’s haunted him—one that not even his club brothers have been willing to discuss. But the more time they spend together, the more their feelings grow. And suddenly they’re both walking the edge of discovering who they really are, what they want, and where they’re going from here.
I haven’t gotten to read this one just yet, but eeee! So excited. I have a rather long cross country drive coming up and I’m trying my hardest to save this bad boy for that 20+ hours of uninterrupted time in the passenger seat.
But it’s there, right now, just waiting in my Kindle, begging for me to click on the first page and frankly, I don’t know if I can hold out much longer. I did, after all, resist the urge to stay up all night (I received my copy around midnight) and read until the wee hours of this morning… don’t I deserve some kind of award for that?
I mean, have you read the first book in the series?? If you haven’t, it’s an absolute must read! Katie McGarry is amazing at pulling you in by your very soul and never letting you go, so seriously, add the Thunder Road Series to your Kindle, or Nook, or shopping cart (however you’re reading these days).
