The long awaited sequel to the fabulous Kricket Series by Amy A. Bartol is here! If you haven’t read it yet, my goodness, are you missing out!

Synopsis:

Eighteen-year-old Kricket Hollowell was looking for her place in the world when she discovered that the universe was bigger—and more dangerous—than she had ever dreamed. Now, whisked across space to the planet Ethar, Kricket learns that her genetic ability to see the future makes her a sought-after commodity…and the catalyst for war between her star-crossed parents’ clans. According to Alameedan prophecy, one house will rise to power and the other will be completely wiped out, and Kricket’s precognition is believed to be the weapon that will tip the scales.

A target of both the Rafe and the Alameeda houses, Kricket finds protection—and a home—in the arms of Trey, her Etharian bodyguard-turned-boyfriend. But her visions of what’s to come disturb her deeply, especially since she must discover whether the gift of foresight will allow her to rewrite the future, or if her fate is as immovable as the stars.

Review:

Amy A. Bartol does not let us down with this second novel of the Kricket Series. It’s funny because I say that like it might be possible for her to let us down and I think we all know darn well that Amy A. Bartol is not in the business of writing anything less than absolutely stellar. In Under Different Stars we met and fell in love with Kricket, Trey, Jax, and Wayra. And we fell in hate (or at least really, really, really dislike) with Kyon and his Alameeda brethren. Everything we learned to love or hate in the first is really driven home in Sea of Stars.

Kricket is one of my all time favorite characters. She’s tough and little rough around the edges in a way that we don’t often see from today’s lead heroines. But at heart, she’s a big softie. She cares about other’s before herself, despite having lived by the rule of looking out for number one, she is constantly looking out for everyone but herself. Her relationship with Trey develops beautifully throughout this novel and it is clear (if it weren’t already) that they are kindred souls, destined for one another.

I don’t want to say anything else, because I don’t want to give away even the tiniest of amazing plot points, twists, and turns because they’re all so amazing to read for the first time and I wouldn’t want to take that away from anyone. But know to expect anything! When you think you’re safe… maybe you’re not and when you think it’s time to throw in the towel and shed tears… dry your eyes because you’re wrong there too. Sea of Stars will have you on the edge of your seat both anxious and terrified to turn the page and read what happens next. It’ll have you swooning one minute, laughing the next, and still near tears in the next. And at the end, you’ll feel heartbreak and cry out because it ended all to quickly and now you must wait impatiently for the next novel in the series. But it’s worth it… so, so worth it!
