**Review** Ruin Me – Jessica Sorensen

Ruin Me is book 5 in the Nova Series and can be read as a standalone.

Ruin Me

A part time student, CNA, and caretaker for her slightly deranged mother, Clara McKiney doesn’t have time for a relationship. That’s why her friends with benefits arrangement with sexy and ridiculously charming Jax Hensley works perfectly.

But Jax has other ideas.

The moment Jax met Clara he was instantly drawn to her wittiness, confidence, and gorgeous smile. Even though he agreed to the friends with benefits arrangement, he secretly hopes for more than their weekend hook ups.

When Jax’s estranged mother mysteriously disappears, he sees an opportunity to spend more time with Clara. After convincing her to return home with him, a new agreement is made. One road trip and week together to find out why his mom vanished into thin air.

Things are about to get complicated.

Ruin Me was unique in terms of the rest of the Nova series, but to be loved and cherished all the same! When it was revealed that Ruin Me would be Jax’s story, I couldn’t contain my excitement. Wreck Me quickly became one of my favorite Jessica Sorensen novels of all time and I grew attached to Jax in the pages and yearned for more of him. Thankfully, we got it!

Jax is the definition of a good guy. Despite a rough and frankly awful upbringing, he’s risen above. He’s working on his college degree and instead of partying and going out a bunch, he puts off his own life to help out his sister and her son. He doesn’t have a girlfriend, but he has Clara, who he wants.

The two begin as friends and progress to friends who hook up. While Jax wants more from their relationship Clara is hesitant. Her own life hasn’t been the easiest. Up until a few years ago it might have been picture perfect, but all that changed and now she has too many responsibilities to add a boyfriend into the mix.

Lucky for Clara, Jax is relentless. He gives her the space she thinks she needs while also being there for her if she wants. Clara doesn’t want a boyfriend. She can’t fit one into her life. But that doesn’t stop her from being attracted to Jax. She can’t seem to stay away from him even if she thinks she should.

When Jax gets a phone call that worries him, he sets out on a drive home to make sure his mom is ok, and still alive. Clara, whose responsibilities are getting the best of her, joins in on this road trip.

A road trip is the perfect setting to watch a friendship turn to more. Despite the serious nature of this novel, Jax will have you laughing and sighing in exasperation alongside Clara. The two balance each other out nicely and their relationship is exciting and fun to watch grow with each page. In typical Jessica Sorensen fashion you will fall in love with these two characters just as I’m sure you have in the past. – This novel is of course part of the Nova series, but it can be read as a standalone, though if you read Wreck Me first, you get more Jax (and another amazing story!)

“You’re right. I think we should stay.” I lace our fingers together and head for the car again. “But on one condition.”
She’s staring down at our interlocked hands, looking puzzled as hell. “And what’s that?”
“That when we get back to the motel, you’ll let me help you with your body inspection.”
She looks up at me and rolls her eyes, but doesn’t comment or try to swat me. In fact, she seems like she briefly considers letting me.
I bite back a smile. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you might want that to happen.”
Now she moves in for the swat, but I capture her hand and jerk her against my body. I’ve had such a shitty night and all I want to do is not feel shitty. Being with Clara does that for me. I want her, even though it’s not Friday. I want her in my car, in the motel room, everywhere. All the time. Every day.
Even though I know she’ll get upset, I lean down and let my mouth linger on hers, waiting for her to pull back and end the kiss. Instead, she parts her lips. I don’t know why she does it. Perhaps she feels bad for me. I don’t care what the reason is.
I slide my arms around her, press her body against mine, and kiss her deeply. Our mouths move slowly and I savor each breathless whimper she makes. She tastes like tequila with a hint of French fries and the feel of her body heat nearly smothers me in the best way possible. I don’t come up for air until she moans out my name and I have to stop; otherwise, I’m going to rip off her clothes right here in the parking lot.
