Ayden Gregory may want to keep running from his nightmares, but he no longer has a choice. His past is catching up with him. And fast. He relies on one person to keep him from crumbling. His best friend Lyric Scott.
Lyric feels helpless watching her best friend’s world turn upside down. But she does her best to remain positive and upbeat. She gets their band their first gig and even with everything going on, her relationship with Ayden starts to heat up.
But when danger enters Ayden’s life again, even Lyric might not be able to help him.
Raveling you is the perfect follow on to Unraveling you. We witness as Lyric and Ayden grow both independently and together. In this installment of the series, each has to face their fears in some way or another and they tend to depend on one another to get them through the worst of it.
This to me, was better than the first! Lyric is more confident in herself and is growing into a beautiful young woman, shedding the image of the silly girl that she occasionally was in the first. Ayden is opening up both his heart and mind to Lyric in a way that doesn’t seem forced or awkward.
Jessica Sorensen perfectly captures the relationship between Ayden and Lyric as it grows and we, as readers get the honor of experiencing it right alongside them.
Of course, as the first book alluded to in it’s ending, this one is not all happy and lovey. There’s heartbreak and fear and a bit of a mystery to be solved. Ayden is having trouble with the death of his brother and the past he can’t remember. He’s got secrets of his own, something that Lyric has trouble coping with.
I also have to take a moment to talk about the rest of the characters that make an appearance in this novel. Of course, you all know I love Ella and Micha and Ethan and Lila but they aren’t who I want to focus on either (though don’t get me wrong, I still love getting to see both couples at this stage in their lives).
I enjoy the band characters. Sage is intriguing and even though we know very little about the character, I find myself rooting for him to do well and be happy.
But it’s the other Gregory children that I really enjoyed in this book. I love the interaction between the children in the family and that despite their different and frankly unpleasant backgrounds, they interact with each other as many brothers and sisters do. Though I found myself intrigued by them all, the character that caught my attention most was Fiona. The adoptive daughter of Lila and Ethan struck me as interesting in the first novel, but my interest was cemented in this one. I can’t wait to see what role she plays in the next installment of Lyric and Ayden’s story and honestly I would not be even a little disappointed if she got a story of her own in the future. I would buy up that book so fast, it’s not even funny.
Overall, Raveling You is a must read! Total five stars. As usual with such wonderful reads the only thing I was disappointed by was that it seemed to end so quickly. I just want more!! (And luckily, we only have to wait a couple more months to get more! The third book in this series is set to release in March!)
“Close your eyes, Ayden,” he begins with a droning tone. “You’re in a safe place, where no one can hurt you. Now let your mind relax.”
Like always, I fleetingly feel like I’m falling.
Then I crash into a wall.
You can’t think about it.
You aren’t allowed.
There was a reason.
For your amnesia.
You think we’d let you off that easy.
You think we’d really let you go.
Don’t think too much.
Or you’re going to lose control.
We’re going to come after you.
Pale eyes… thin bodies…. yellow teeth… blue and red lights flash as sirens near closer to the home. Someone is banging on the door, shouting, “Open up!”
My sister lifts her head, life in her eyes for the first time. My brother is curled up in the corner though, thin, fail, so close to death.
Our capturers flee, but not without an impending warning.
“No one escapes,” the woman whispers as she stabs her fingernails into my hands. “We’ll come back for you.” Her face… blurred… but the pain… is excruciating.
My eyelids spring open to the patch on the ceiling. The room is quiet, but my heart thunders like a storm inside my chest.
