Sink (book 2 of The Cold Mark Series) By Scarlett Dawn.
Let’s start with that cover! Because Daymn! I love it! Scarlett Dawn always has great covers, but I think this one may be my very favorite… yes this is an example of what to expect when you start reading!
Here’s the Official Blurb
The second installment of the bestselling Cold Mark serial launches with Sink, where fear and willpower battle from within…
Braita Valorn’s pampered existence with the Plumas of the west was cut short by her own hand. Being their Soul only complicates matters as she hides inside their enemy’s territory. Danger lurks, and Braita’s lack of knowledge of the planet, Triaz, is now abundantly clear.
Braita’s only strength against the deadly Mian is the blessed sun that lights the day hours.
On a mission to find her best friend, Jax, she must infiltrate the Crank Pit, a brutal complex where Mian enter, only to leave absent a heartbeat. Nothing transpires as planned. Braita’s reckless behavior lands her right into her adversaries’ custody–the Plumas of the east. Will Braita find the answers she’s been searching for…or will she sink further into a sensual world she never thought possible?
We start with Briata living in hiding, specifically living with a giant spider-like creature. Yeah, this is sooooo not a place you would ever find me! Spiders (and all spider like creatures) are on my stay the hell away from list. Yep. I have a list.
So Briata is sharing a space with this giant bug while waiting for an opening to find Jax. Long story short… she does. Be happy. Right? Wrong. Jax has changed… he’s acting more Mian than Human at the moment! It throws Briata back a step to find Jax living a happy life with the Mian.
In this novel, we don’t get much – or any of Leo and Malik. And I was a little sad about it, but I wasn’t expecting much of them with how the first installment ended. Never fear! We get lots of Phila and Kelleg, who in the first book scared me, but they’re kind of, sort of, pretty damn hot in this installment. You won’t be disappointed with the Plumas of the east!
Briata handles herself amazingly well in this installment. I’m surprised she’s kept it together and sane this long, but she has. She’s strong and fierce, but there’s also a softer and vulnerable quality to her that makes her so very relatable. She’s still so new to this world and doesn’t know how to react and what to think of many things, so she’s scared… and rightly so. But she pushes aside all wariness and stands up for herself and for Jax. I’ve read before that bravery isn’t the absence of fear but rather, it’s acting in spite of fear and by this definition Briata is the bravest heroine I’ve read in a long while.
Fair warning though. You may die when you get to the end! That cliff hanger is rough! Perfect, but rough! I want is all and I want it all right now! I feel lost and heartbroken that it ended so quickly. I wast ready for this…. I don’t think I would ever have been ready for it to end. Butttttttt, where she chose to end this one was perfect, it was just enough to make curious and excited and maybe a little sad too. So if you really can’t take a crazy cliffhanger maybe hold off on this one until after she has the whole series out, but either way you’ll love it! Love, love, love it!
